So it's Glastonbury weekend. Long awaited for the privileged 200,000 who managed to get tickets! My eldest has gone (perk of working in the music industry). I'm a little bit jealous if the truth be known.
I will look forward to the footage on the BBC and 6 Music though. I would most deffo be there for Khruangbin (my fave this year) and Bonono following his incredible performance at the Royal Albert Hall. Many, many, more from Biscep, Elbow, Kendrick Lamar, even Robert Plant with Alison Krauss is sounding fresh! It will be so great!
Music stirs our soul doesn't it? I remember lying down in an auditorium at Cheltenham race course at another festival a few years ago, listening to a live performance of Taverna. It created a beautiful memory - I will remember forever.
Equally, being right at the front at All Points East for The Chemical Brothers in 2019. Wowzers - that was electric! I have so many music memories. Music stirs your senses, takes you somewhere else.
I've talked before about the need to really feel and awaken our senses to be able to withdraw from them (to meditate). I'm sure most of you have your own magic music moments too.
In my classes I've been looking at rocking. Unintentionally, but 'rocking up.' This week we looked at legs together in Ubyha Padangusthasan ( check out a little video tutorial here) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVTtiKNsRnk
Frankly, it's not easy, your hamstrings need to be open enough and your abdominal muscles strong enough to 'land' the hold. It takes practice. Quite a lot (unless you've had dance or gymnastic experience, which most of us haven't).
But - I love being playful and trying things out. I think it's important in life. An old boss of mine once said, when I worked in fashion, 'standing still is going backwards'. There's many a true word in that. Of course we can't always be on this progressional curve of development but trying things out, find an edge, listening to new music, being a bit impulsive - all keep our senses alive. Having something to work towards - I feel is an important part of our well being.
Maybe this weekend you can enjoy a bit of new music too, or try out something new or different? Even 'Rocking Up' if you join me for some playful yoga in classes. Add a spark to your senses. BTW Here's a link to my fave Khruangbin and Leon Bridges track. They're playing tonight - can't wait to see coverage! https://open.spotify.com/track/0Hm61sSVBycsO5Se5mbKdu?si=1aVckTzNQQG0wbcNCokm2w&context=spotify%3Aplaylist%3A4D3L9MqyV3vI5N8hYsrF1W
Namaste.
