Quality (as opposed to quantity)

I'm learning a lot through dog training. A lot resonates with me. When I asked the trainer if it was the right thing doing 4 dog walks a day to address their individual needs, she assured me this was good. Even if they were only getting 30mins of my time what's important is 'the quality of that time' rather than the length of the walk.

The training teaches to properly engage with our pets. Have a better understanding of their behaviour. Teach them good manners and lots of tricks. It's hard work but really starting to pay off!

I've always liked nice things and have an appreciation for good quality. Whether it's clothing, interiors, food, even a trip to the hairdressers. I would rather have less and good quality, rather than more.

I've written in previous blogs about the concept 'Slow Living', from the Kinfolk books by Nathan Williams, which is about living with less and treasuring the things around us which bring us happiness or joy. I love this concept and a more minimal environment.

For me this sits alongside my yoga practice and teaching. It's about a mindful consistent practice which ultimately as in the Bhagavad Gita is being present to the journey and not an end result. It's about the quality and consistency of practice, a bit like dog training.

If you're familiar with the Yamas, Aparigraha is the last Yama from the Yoga Sutras which is about non possessiveness, and letting go.

People have suggested I do various things to reach more people and gain more followers on social media, but I feel there's a careful balance here and it's more important to really connect and have a good relationship with those I work with. I like to use my 'Tips on Tuesday' on instagram to share practical information and build this into my weekly themes.

Yesterday in the community class I teach in Holloway we spent more time looking at breath. It was focused on quality and less is more. It was lovely. (Incidentally this class is suitable for anyone and you only pay £5 if you can, details on my website).

Back to dog training - we're doing a practice of the Kennel Club Bronze Award on Sunday. We can only do our best and try. We've put the daily practice in. It's a bit like yogaeverydamnday, dogtrainingeverydamnday! If you're a dog owner you might be interested.

Have a great weekend X
