Since the rain earlier this week Spring has truly sprung, especially in my local woods filled with lots of birch and old oak trees.
As the leaves have freshly uncurled from dormant twigs and branches, their translucent colour is clean and brilliant. A beautiful colour wash canopy contrasted by the peaty earth and grainy trunks.
We are part of nature whether we like it or not, when we take the time to notice the subtle changes in the season like this, it has a calming effect on our brain. No spoilers about this here for my Norway Retreaters. I will share more after we return.
Green colours have been around for a while in fashion and interiors and it looks like they are here to stay for a while longer yet. I noticed a Vogue article talking about Green Is The New Black for Autumn/Winter 2025.
I wonder whether after the pandemic when we were forced to be at home more and only spend time with others outside this helped to 'drive' this trend?
Or maybe as the world edges towards more sustainable approaches, we're all becoming more appreciative of the natural world.
When the fresh leaves unfold to a new season it's a reminder that things are constantly changing. Being a yogi has definitely helped me appreciate this even more. The past is gone. It is a memory and shouldn't shape what we could become. Each day is our life NOW and it's up to us to embrace it in whatever way we can. This is the attitude I encourage people to have in a yoga practice. Let go of the narratives. The ego telling you you can't do it. Or not to bother if you can't straight away. It's about 'the practice', the effort and discipline and not the end result.
For me walking daily in the woods is a joy and watching the green leaves uncurl after the rainfall. The sound of the birdsong as new life springs forth. The fern fronds unfolding in perfectly balanced mathematical ratio and the moss springing into new spongy life.
There's something soothing, calming and yet energising about the colour green.
I'll keep wearing my khaki leggings - maybe more than black ones.
Hope to see you soon X
